Description

Bowl from the early to mid-Meiji period, decorated in overglaze red and gold.  This style, very typical for Kutani, is called aka-e, literally “red picture”.  On the inside, a phoenix in a square reserve, as well as dense abstract decoration.  On the outside, also phoenixes and abstract designs.
