The Furumoto Collection of Japanese Antiques was assembled over the last twenty years by a Japanese antiques lover and her Austrian husband. It is one of the largest and most diverse collections of its kind in Europe.
It is not intended to rival the Khalili and similar high-end collections but rather to show what can be accomplished with a modest budget and a lot of dedication.
The emphasis of the collection is on porcelain, cloisonné and lacquerware, especially on Arita and Imari porcelain of the 18th century, with Kakiemon, Kutani & Yokohama, as well as dolls and their accessories also well represented. The main criterion for choosing pieces (apart from quality, of course) was originality: We would rather have one unusual piece than three run-of-the-mill ones.
The virtual museum that you are about to enter is a work in progress. New pieces are constantly being added, old photos replaced for better ones (time permitting), and other improvements are being added.
And now: Enough talking – enter (by clicking on one of the 12 category links at the top of this page) and enjoy the beauty of Japanese craftsmanship throughout the ages!
